Roadside Zoo News has been investigating and reporting on B.W. Ferris, a resident of Ben Wheeler, Texas, for more than a year. Ferris frequently changes his own name, and the name of his for profit and nonprofit businesses, to avoid detection of his illegal activity. B.W. Ferris also goes by the name Brian Werner, Brian Ferris and Brian Werner Ferris.

B.W. Ferris and his daughter, Emily Owen Brooks, run Tiger Creek Animal Sanctuary, also known as National Foundation for Rescued Animals, a roadside zoo in Tyler, Texas. The facility has been cited by the U.S. Department of Agriculture several times in the past year, including an Official Warning for failing to provide veterinary care to their animals. In January 2022, the Animal Legal Defense Fund issued their intent to sue Tiger Creek Animal Sanctuary for violations of the Endangered Species Act.
