A dozen monkeys stolen from a Louisiana zoo

At least 12 squirrel monkeys were stolen from a Louisiana zoo on Saturday.

The incident occurred at Zoosiana in Broussard. An individual allegedly broke into the zoo shortly before midnight on January 28, 2023, and compromised the squirrel monkey habitat.

The zoo said the thief was successful in stealing at least 12 of the monkeys. Zoosiana posted on social media that the remaining squirrel monkeys have been assessed by a veterinary team. No other animals were targeted in the theft.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Broussard Police Department.
